DISNEY STREAMING SERVICE
Bog Iger, Disney CEO, has recently announced their plans to make an in house streaming service with a roughly scheduled date for 2019. It will be along the lines of Netflix and will exclusively get Marvel and Star Wars movies as well as the Marvel branded television properties such as Daredevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Will this lead to further Marvel TV awesomeness or just mean that audiences, which aren’t familiar with the Marvel brand, few that they might be, miss out on the fun all together? The plus side of Netflix is that you do tend to find content you would otherwise miss purely by being on a platform, which is not dedicated to one brand. Likewise with the Star Wars properties, will a newer generation of fans miss out on newer content as Disney looks to channel the viewer to its other properties.
For now it is up in the air, as although we have a proposed 2019 date this of course may change. It would be a shame if Netflix were no longer able to shoe Star Wars and Marvel properties, as I’m sure many people out there will not want to subscribe to another streaming service.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one and will be sure to update this article further with any new developments.
