RETRO REVIEW: ZELDA THE ORCARINA OF TIME
November 21, 1998. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out. I was there, savings in hand to purchase it for the Nintendo 64. Make no mistake; this was a great day in my life!
Exactly 12 hours after purchase I was screaming in frustration, but this was followed up by many a victorious whoop as well. Those of you that have ever adventured in Hyrule will know exactly what I mean.
Nearly 20 years later and this game is still one of the finest role-playing games, actually not just role-playing, but also one of THE best games ever.
I’m not alone in this thought, the amount of times I’ve walked into second hand shops and seen the mark ups on old classics no doubt as a result of their popularity, shows there is a desire for simpler more nostalgic games. Is it just nostalgia? Could it be that gamers are fed up of eye watering 4K images and surround sound and what ever else is out there now? I don’t know, I’m too busy looking for more Nintendo 64 games to play….
